I want our classroom to feel happy, calm and inviting. I strive to spend the most time on learning and the least on behavior management by developing shared expectations which are frequently reinforced. For that to happen, 5th grade students will spend time learning many classroom procedures in the first weeks of school. This builds a foundation of structure and independence, which empowers children to feel safe and act responsibly. It is equally important to know how we will work together as a group, so on the first day of school the students and I will create a list of class agreements. These will allow everyone to have a positive experience in the classroom. All students are expected to follow these agreements and routines. (Coming soon!)
